TARAGO WATER TREATMENT PLANT – Baulderstone Hornibrook/Thiess/United Group

Location: Victoria
The Tarago Water Treatment Plant contract was the first stage in the Victorian Government's $4.9 billion upgrade for the state’s water supply. Heading & Associates worked under an Alliance agreement with Melbourne Water, Baulderstone Hornibrook and United Group on the construction of new water treatment plant reconnecting the Tarago Reservoir to Melbourne Water's supply network.

This was part of the Tarago Project that aimed to ensure the sustainability of the reservoir’s catchment and its waterways, helping provide local and regional areas with long-term water security. The reservoir will generate up to 15 billion litres of water a year, which will be treated at the plant before it is supplied to its customers.

The $97 million plant was built ahead of time and under budget. It opened officially on 24 June, 2009.
