This 128-hectare site in Maribyrnong, formerly an explosives factory, will be transformed into residential and office dwellings. It is expected that around 3,000 new homes will be constructed, as well as parkland, with significant defence heritage buildings being restored and re-used. These works will essentially lead to the creation of a brand-new suburb on the Maribyrnong River, 10km from the city centre. The main aim of the pre-building stage is to remediate the site, making it safe for a range of urban uses. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2012.
